His Majesty King Mohammed VI inaugurated on Monday the Mohammed VI International University Hospital Complex in Rabat, a state-of-the-art facility designed to deliver world-class healthcare services and advanced medical training, reaffirming Morocco’s commitment to accessible, innovative, and equitable healthcare for all citizens.
On this occasion, the Sovereign also gave His High Instructions to put into operation the Mohammed VI University Hospital Center in Agadir, a landmark project expected to significantly strengthen healthcare and medical training in the Souss-Massa region.
A symbol of Morocco’s new generation of smart, sustainable medical infrastructure, the Mohammed VI International University Hospital Complex of Rabat offers a seamless integration between clinical care, research, and education. Covering 280,000 m², the complex consists of two complementary entities: the Mohammed VI International University Hospital (190,000 m²) and the Mohammed VI University of Science and Health (90,000 m²).
With an initial capacity of 600 beds—expandable to 1,000—the hospital features more than 30 medical, surgical, and technical centers of excellence, spanning specialties such as robotic surgery, neurosurgery, interventional cardiology, oncology, radiotherapy, and advanced imaging. The facility also includes 24 ultramodern operating rooms, 143 intensive care beds, and 30 neonatal incubators.
Notably, the hospital houses Africa’s first fully automated laboratory platform, covering all analytical stages—from preanalysis to postanalysis—in chemistry, immunology, and hematology. It also boasts Morocco’s only fully digitalized anatomical pathology laboratory, offering high-precision diagnostic capabilities.
Patient-centered care remains at the heart of the hospital’s mission, ensuring integrated, personalized, and high-quality medical pathways. The facility serves as a premier learning environment for students of the Mohammed VI University of Science and Health, providing hands-on training within a technologically advanced clinical setting.
As for the Mohammed VI University Hospital Center of Agadir, the facility—built on a 30-hectare site with an indoor surface of 127,000 m²—represents an investment of nearly MAD 3.1 billion (approximately €300 million). With a total capacity of 867 beds, it includes specialized centers for maternal and child health, cardiology, radiology, and medical-surgical services, as well as advanced operating rooms and an integrated training and simulation system.
Agadir’s CHU is also the first hospital in Africa to integrate the “Revo I” surgical robot, enabling minimally invasive procedures with micrometric precision and 3D visualization—enhancing both surgical accuracy and patient outcomes.
Serving nearly 3 million people, this next-generation hospital will significantly expand access to specialized care across southern Morocco, reducing the need for long-distance travel for complex treatments.
Together, the Rabat and Agadir hospital complexes will create thousands of direct and indirect jobs, boosting healthcare innovation and contributing to Morocco’s broader social and economic development.
