His Majesty King Mohammed VI described the United Nations Security Council’s latest resolution on the Moroccan Sahara as a “decisive turning point” in the ongoing process of consolidating Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces and bringing a lasting end to the decades-long artificial conflict.
In a speech delivered shortly after the adoption of the resolution, the Sovereign welcomed the UN decision, calling it “a new chapter in consolidating the Moroccanness of the Sahara and closing, once and for all, this fabricated dispute through a consensual solution grounded in the Autonomy Initiative.”
The King emphasized that this moment marks “a pivotal phase in modern Morocco’s history — the emergence of a unified nation from Tangier to Lagouira, a Morocco whose rights and historical borders will not be violated by anyone.”
His Majesty noted that the sustained diplomatic momentum of recent years is now bearing concrete results. “Today, two-thirds of UN Member States recognize the Autonomy Initiative as the only framework for resolving this conflict,” he said, underscoring the growing international consensus around Morocco’s proposal.
The Sovereign further highlighted that recognition of the Kingdom’s economic sovereignty over its southern provinces has increased significantly. Major powers — including the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Russia, Spain, and the European Union — have encouraged trade and investment with these regions, reinforcing their integration into Morocco’s national development model.
“These provinces are now positioned to become a hub for development, stability, and economic growth across the Sahel and Sahara region,” the Monarch affirmed.
In light of the newly adopted resolution, Morocco will “update and elaborate” its Autonomy Initiative before submitting it to the United Nations, His Majesty announced, stressing that it should serve as “the sole basis for negotiation, as it is the only realistic and viable solution.”
The King expressed his deep appreciation to all countries that contributed to this diplomatic milestone through their constructive and principled stances. He made special mention of the United States, under the leadership of former President Donald Trump, “whose efforts paved the way for a final settlement of this conflict.”
His Majesty also thanked France, Britain, Spain, and the European Union for their sustained support, along with Arab and African nations that have consistently demonstrated “unwavering and unconditional support for the Moroccan Sahara.”
Despite these positive developments, the King reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to a peaceful, inclusive solution: “We seek an outcome without winners or losers — one that preserves the dignity of all parties. Morocco will not treat these developments as a victory, nor will it exploit them to fuel tension or division.”
In a heartfelt message to the population living in the Tindouf camps in southwestern Algeria, the Sovereign urged them to “seize this historic opportunity to reunite with their families and contribute to developing their homeland within a unified Morocco.”
“As King and guarantor of the rights and freedoms of all citizens, I affirm that all Moroccans are equal — there is no distinction between those returning from the Tindouf camps and their brothers and sisters in the homeland,” His Majesty declared.
Concluding his address, King Mohammed VI extended a sincere invitation to Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to “launch a genuine and brotherly dialogue between Morocco and Algeria, to overcome differences and build new relations based on trust, fraternity, and good neighbourliness.”
He reiterated Morocco’s steadfast commitment to reviving the Arab Maghreb Union on the basis of mutual respect, cooperation, and regional integration among its five member states.
